THE NELSONVILLE
DIVISION OF FIRE
![]()
The Nelsonville Division of Fire was established in 1890. We proudly protect 5,177 people living in an area of 10.4 square miles. We operate out of a single station that protects the municipal area. Our department is a public agency whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer. We have an ISO rating of 5. We are staffed 24 hours a day by at least one on-duty firefighter. The Divisions staff includes the Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Senior Firefighter, and three (3) part-time Firefighters. Full-time staff work 40 hour weeks, on 8 hour shifts. Part-time staff cover the remainder of the open time. This staff is supplemented with twenty-three (23) Volunteer Firefighters. We provide service to the City of Nelsonville and Hocking College. We are currently in the process of upgrading apparatus and our station.
Our station is currently located at 211 Lake Hope Drive in Nelsonville. We recently moved out of a 100 year old station. At one time horse drawn engines responded from the old station.

On September 11, 2001 three of our members responded to New York City and the site of the World Trade Center Collapse. During their time in New York City our Firefighters established a special bond with the members of the FDNY. We will always be the brother Fire House of FDNY Battalion 8, Engine 8, Ladder 2.
